yikes, Brenda.
I'm trying to figure out when to leave for the company picnic. It officially starts at 3 and goes until 8. I have no meetings this afternoon and my boss is going over there early. But Bob is coming out for it and can't leave his work until 530 or so. Do I really want to be there for that long? That's a lot of socializing.
And I only have my office for a couple of more days...
We're having an unofficial picnic/bbq today. Unofficial and annoying: it's at the Big Boss's place, which is an hour's drive away, in Novato. If you go, you get the afternoon off. If you don't go, you have to stay and work.
This is a treat? Yeah, whatever. I'll stay here and go to the farmer's market for lunch. Which, hey, it's time for that now!

That's annoying.
We can charge up to 2 hours to picnic time.

Oh yeah, fuck that. I vote stay and don't work.
Sucks, Brenda. Ugh.
Ugh is right. I mean, I could see it coming (obv.), but not the direction I want. I have a very strong relationship with current boss. Starting Monday I will be reporting into her current boss, who I don't know very well, don't altogether trust, and who doesn't really have a great understanding of what the hell it is we do.
With all the changes going on and in development, I'm going to have to be basically playing politics full time until things sort out to make sure I land in a place that works. I'm in a good position to do that, I think (hence all the confidential meetings and shit) but I don't wanna.

In that case, leave whenever you would've left to be two hours early, wait for bob to get there, have him eat food, and then leave right after (having put in your quality time with the schmoozing prior to his arrival)
Hah! Love this. I enjoy buying clothes/jewelry while traveling so when people say "oh, those are great earrings!" I can say "I got them in Budapest/Hawaii/Peru!"
I have two pairs of earrings that I bought in costa rica on the cruise with my mother. I think that I paid $2 a pair, but I get complimented on them often. I should have bought more of them!
oh man, we have a previously scheduled team leadership meeting in 10 minutes. Awkward.
