lisa I love your kitchen! Especially the countertops.
Thanks, askye! It's 3 years old now and I still love it! The countertops and cabinets are just Ikea.

Oh that's good to know! Have they worn well? They're gorgeous.

(Fingers crossed for megan walker!)
Holy SHIT, housing prices in Cali FLOOR me.
We have a 2 story, 3 BR with a basement, separate garage, front sunroom, back screened in porch, full DR, LR with a (nonworking) fireplace and deck and yard.
Granted, our house needs some work -- a hole in the kitchen ceiling, the old French doors leading to the back porch were taken out and replaced with some lovely pink insulation thingies, and the deck needs a ton of boards replaced. It was a farmhouse in the early 1900's, and was a B&B (although this makes me NUTS -- the bedrooms are tiny and close together. Did only people who KNEW each other wel stay here?)
But it cost about 125K in 2005, and it's in a really nice neighborhood -- we're thisclose to Mission Hills, which is a schmancy mansion-y burb.
Apparently, this amount of money would purchase a cardboard box in SF. A small one.
Pink license plates are a must!
I also read somewhere that we didn't really get hit with the housing bubble, because our prices never inflated (probably simply because there are WAY more houses than people who want to live here!).
Now that I have paid off my credit cards, I feel like I should look in to buying a house, as a modest house is actually less than my rent. But, then I would have to mow the lawn!
