Such a tiny city (eight miles by eight miles, I think) yet the weather can vary quite a bit depending where you are.
Yup. Not uncommon for a fifteen degree difference between The Sunset and The Mission. Two of the biggest factors in real estate here are how much cold fog the neighborhood gets (undesirable) and how much of a view you have (since there are so many hills). These are not real estate concerns in Jacksonville.
Tom, you will be gone when I am in NY!
When I was a kid, I remember being in school as late as 6/28, and we definitely didn't go back until after Labor Day, so I assume it's the same deal now.
The school year is similar here.
unrealistic expectation of jumping into boxes or riding Roombas?
The greatest disappointment of my Roomba ownership is that neither cat will ride it.
I was kind of thinking about going someplace where people won't care so much that it's the 10th anniversary of 9/11.
Scola,
if you find that place, please post it.

Well, they don't usually make a big fuss about it in San Francisco. Just avoid picking up the paper that day.
They
do
make a big deal out of the anniversary of the 1906 quake, though, but that's in October. Also, I think we're out of living survivors which used to be a thing.

Well, "Not NYC" is a start....
Bees! Hee, I feel so cutting edge, I had a swarm of bees before it was cool in NYC.

That sounds like an excellent plan. I was going to offer my backyard as an option, but I can't vouch for the rest of my town, alas.
