When I was a kid, I remember being in school as late as 6/28, and we definitely didn't go back until after Labor Day, so I assume it's the same deal now.

That sounds like an excellent plan. I was going to offer my backyard as an option, but I can't vouch for the rest of my town, alas.
You know, I'm thinking of taking a vacation in August or September too. Maybe to the East coast, or perhaps to the Bay area to visit my aunt and uncle. I'm thinking a road trip, as I haven't done that in years. Or else by train....
