I went bike riding, and then went to the park at the end of the bike trail. Playground swings are just as much fun now as they were when I was eight.
Jessica - excellent news re: Ethan's new job.
Ahhhh, got my work computer back. Apparently my memory decided to go bad. A quick replace and I'm back to work. Yay?
Wish that worked for my personal memory. I think something is loose up there.
Separately - GO ETHAN. Very cool job. Congrats!
Woo hoo, Ethan!
Excellent news Jessica!
Kate, did you take pics at the church? What kind of memorial do they have up for the four little girls. I can only imagine how emotional that visit must have been for you.
I took a few pictures -- I'll post them on FB later this week. There's a small memorial statue outside the church with the four girls' names and an image of four girls with their arms around each other and their backs to the viewer, looking at the church. (Here's someone else's photo of the statue. Their names are on the other side.) There's also a large stained-glass window in the sanctuary that was donated to the church by the citizens of Wales after the bombing (picture), and in the basement there's a memorial section with photos of the girls, the church after the bombing, and a few others, as well as a clock that was in the church that stopped at the moment of the bombing.
We've been talking and thinking about the civil rights movement this season in my choir and have worked up a couple of songs related to the movement: "Lift Every Voice and Sing" and a Sweet Honey in the Rock song about Ella Baker, "Ella's Song." We sang those songs in the church sanctuary, and it was incredibly powerful. Just about everyone was crying by the end. Quite an experience.
I love singing Sweet Honey in the Rock songs! The choir I was in in DC sang a lot of them, and they were always awesome.
Wow.
