the UHF channels, because that's typically where you found the weird ass shit
There was a UHF channel in Milwaukee that ran a few completely uncut film on Fridays at midnight. I saw Repo Man one week, and then soon after, they stopped showing the uncut films after getting complaints about the language.
Remember when the stations signed off at midnight and showed the test pattern?
Steve Martin said that on one of the albums as he was saying good night, talking about how much he had to go and do -- "Hey, what time does TV go off?"
UHF. Does anyone remember stunning weirdness of amazing 3:'
Spacemen with a mission/ You must make a very big decision/ with your solar bomb you can destroy us/ or save the world / or save the world/ amazing 3! amazing3!
And the three aliens spent most of their time in cute animal form. But had human looking forms too. And were deadly in either form - especially the team leader/cute bunny/sexy teenage girl.
Always was surprised it never caught on as something to watch while high.
Joe Negri out of Pittsburgh on Saturday morning, with the cartoons.
Anyone else who grew up in NY in the seventies or eighties remember Magic Garden?

Last year, Carole and Paula were touring and singing the old Magic Garden songs.
Frazier Thomas on WGN.
Garfield Goose and Friends! Ray Raynor. (We had a stuffed Cuddly Duddly dog.) And Bozo's Circus, with Bozo, Curly, Wizzo, and Ringmaster Ned! (We got tickets for Bozo's Circus when I was five years old. My parents had applied for them before I was born, but I was able to take the ticket that they originally had intended for my brother, who was ten years old by the time we got to go.)
The summer I was in 7th grade (I did not have cable, although people did), one station showed The Blue Lagoon several times at around 4 am. I know I am not hallucinating, because my BFF remembers it too. It was very titallating for a 14 year old, although I do not remember if it was cut.
Until cable we had three VHF channels, and on UHF a PBS and a local channel (which is now fox). I do remember that PBS showed WAY more movies before there was cable readly available.
