I haven't used my dinner plates since the surgery, just the salad plates.
I really only use my salad plates. My dinner plates are put away in a bottom cupboard. I use them for dinner party stuff when I am putting several things on a plate and totally garnishing it. But just me or just friends over? Salad plate. It's still not a small plate.
The dishes we have, have stripes on the outer edge or in the case of coffee cups and bowls, near the top. The bottom edge of the lowest stripe on the cups is where I fill for ice cream (I don't pack it down, if I did, it would be more than half a cup). The top of the bottom stripe on the bowls is the right water level for packets of instant oatmeal (I like it more creamy than viscous).
My typical lunch involves an entire 16oz package of frozen veggies plus 4-6oz of protein, so I dump it all in a glass pie plate and shove it in the microwave. When I go for a salad, I will use the pie plate as well, and heap it up with lettuce plus other veggies and a bit of meat. Of course, veggies aren't like ice cream - there is no virtue in restraining oneself to one serving a day, and many benefits to having 8ish.
Leftover lo mein. My only order out of the past couple weeks.
Hi ita! You have a moon! I heard it said on my teevee!

Too bad they didn't pronounce it correctly.
The dish set we have came with "dessert" bowls in addition to "salad" bowls. We tend to use the dessert bowl more than the salad bowls. I also prefer using the salad plates to the dinner plates. I do need to start measuring my portions because I'm sure my estimating is off.
I got a premixed batch of "Berbere Ethiopian" spices and added a teaspoon full, which made it quite noticeably spicy
Ooh, that sounds pretty neat--where did you get them? At some sort of specialty store, or Ethiopian market?
If anyone wants real Berbere, I can get you some from Ethiopia, most likely. No idea on the cost though.
People in time zones behind me -- my city's mayor is on Undercover Boss tonight, and it was actually pretty entertaining. His first undercover job was with the dude who picks up roadkill. Hilarious!
I'm also sometimes surprised at how satisfying a proper portion of something can be.
This has been the surprise of the food log for me. Knowing the calorie count of a portion makes it more satisfying in odd, knowledge is power, sort of way.
I've gotten to the end of my calorie allotment in an evening and actually felt full...just because I know I've had all I need.
I'm tracking what I eat on MyPlate, and...knowing I've had all I need does not make me feel full. But I definitely appreciate the help it gives me to be mindful of what I'm choosing to eat, and it is actually a smack in the face to be reminded that, oh yeah, I can't just grab 3 cookies and expect it to not count.

This was a real jerk up for me too. My tendency to pick at little stuff make it feel as if not having a big meal was somehow more virtuous. Not so, turns out.
I logged my free day eating for today and discovered it totaled a full two days worth of calories. Ouch. Got to figure out how I can work that off in the next week.
Getting the new pedometer might help.
