Dog tongs were kept in churches in Britain up to about 100 years ago, to remove dogs who fought or otherwise misbehaved during services.
This reminds me of the great story in the final book in Laura Ingalls Wilder's Little House series, when Laura, Mary, and Pa are at Sunday services. Since the church was overcrowded, Pa had to sit elsewhere, while Laura sat on the center aisle end of the pew. Midway through the preacher's overly long sermon, just as Laura was getting really bored, a kitten walked down the middle aisle and started checking out the scenery from the front of the church. A few minutes later, a small dog did the same, and Laura was wondering where the kitten disappeared to. Then, she looked down at her hoop-skirted dress, saw the kitten's tail vanishing under the skirt, and then felt the kitten climbing up the metal of her hoop. At that moment, she saw the dog definitely sniffing around for the cat, and then imagined what would happen if he found said cat, and she started choking on keeping her laughter inside. Mary, sitting next to her but literally blind to what was happening, could sense her incipient giggles, and told her to behave herself. Only after the dog disappointedly walked away from the church did the kitten climb back down and leave.
DJ, your husband is awesome. Perry is an asshat.
Y'all it's not even noon yet and my stomach is already growling. This day is gonna be trying. I think it is time for a bowl of chicken broth.
Dearest Faux: it's spelled "f-i-l-m," not "f-l-i-m". No love, yours truly.
I missed breakfast this morning (in favor of doing my laundry instead, so I'd have something to wear to work), so I'm having a very early lunch in a few minutes. The cafeteria has italian sausage and peppers over pasta--I'll have them hold the pasta, but I might take the garlic breadstick and see if I can handle a bite or two.
Speaking of Fox, when was the last time we in the US have had a major news media outlet that constantly makes up the news in order to further a partisan agenda? Was it the yellow journalism of the 1890s?
I am still having to explain Angry Birds references to people. SIGH
It's only a matter of time, Theo.
Is it now that I confess that I've never seen Angry Birds? I mean, I know what it is in concept, but I've never actually seen the game.

I don't know about "making up," but partisan/ideological bias lasted long after that. The Chicago Tribune of the FDR era comes to mind.

But how will the Angry Birds get revenge against the pigs who stole their eggs if you don't play the game?
