Nana korobi, ya oki. (Fall down seven times, stand up eight.) ~Yuzuru Hanyu/Japanese proverb

The office made the announcement after reviewing statements Cox purportedly made in tweets and blog posts, including one in which he said he advocated "deadly force" against "thugs" who threatened state elected officials in Wisconsin.

I know I'm preaching to the choir here, but I am so tired of the characterization of the protesters as "thugs". I didn't feel at all like a thug when I was up at the capitol yesterday. Everyone I met was so polite and helpful, it was more a love-in than anything else.

I wish I'd had a camera, some of the signs in the rotunda were just so clever and awesome. My favorite was one that said something to the effect "We are prison guards who protect you from criminals. Who is going to protect us from this criminal?"

Always Anti-fascist!

If he had said he would attack the protesters with hummus, maybe that is satire. But he didn't tell the guy at Mother Jones he was joking. David Corn was pissed on the TV machine yesterday;till then I wouldn't have guessed he had the capacity.

Love is stronger than death and harder than sorrow. Those who practice it are fierce like the light of stars traveling eons to pierce the night.

And now I'm picturing Cumberbatch-Holmes in RDJ's place. I might have to go lie down.

Bunk?

Can I make a confession? That Sherlock/Watson pic does absolutely nothing for me. No ping, no skew, no fanning of the face.

That is the Deep Irony. Slash usually isn't my thing, but my brain is still Guh!ing.

This! The PBS guys in that picture would be funny, to me, but not at all sexy. (Although I do think they are wonderful in the show!)

Yeah, Jeremy Brett is The. Holmes. Period. That's it, that's all there is to it. I used to have a book in my lap, opened to the story in question, watching that. But there wasn't much UST or any kind of ST. Brett conveys brilliantly how deeply Holmes sublimated any sexual urges into the work of the mind - a bit Vulcan, the passion may be enormous but the control is exponentially higher - all Superego except the coke habit.

(And yet, in spite of my above post, I'm firmly in the RDJ IS PURE SEX camp when it comes to comparative Sherlockery.)

Cumberbatch is undoubtedly the prettiest Holmes I have ever seen (although I am unreasonably smitten with Jeremy Brett's eyelids), and an interesting interplay of Thanatos and Libido. But RDJ's Holmes has a convincingly more open Id, and a stronger Libido than Thanatos. In short, Mmm, RDJ /Transuding Furies

Consuela, I'm sorry your mom is in such pain and you have had so much stress. I hope it gets better for you both.

I know I'm preaching to the choir here, but I am so tired of the characterization of the protesters as "thugs". I didn't feel at all like a thug when I was up at the capitol yesterday. Everyone I met was so polite and helpful, it was more a love-in than anything else.

In a Psychology of Learning class I took, the prof said, "If you agree with it, it's education; if you disagree, it's propaganda." In this case, if you agree with the protesters, it's a peaceful demonstration; but if you disagree, then they are all thugs who hate the Real America.

Sometimes I think I might just move up to Vermont, open a bookstore or a vegan restaurant. Adam Schlesinger, z''l

I wish I'd had a camera, some of the signs in the rotunda were just so clever and awesome.

I was having some fun looking through the pictures and picking out the signs obviously made by elementary teachers -- the pop-out letters and big colorful pictures were a clear give-away, as were the posters made with poster paint rather than markers.

Librarian Warlord

Dear Nanny Share parents: Every spring I ask you to go through the toys and take home what's yours because if I don't our playroom becomes the land of lost toys. Don't send me emails telling me "we only have a few things there." I realize this is coming hard on the heels of my request last week that you stop bringing food for the week and leaving it in my fridge, but there is a theme here: It's my god damn house, so I get to keep as much shit in it as I like, and you don't. PFFT!

Sometimes I trip on how happy we could be.

Jesse, fleece-lined tights sound BRILLIANT. I am going to have to look for some.

Yeah, they are great -- cozy but not too thick. These were on clearance at Target a couple of weeks ago, so only $7 a pop!

"This bar smells like kerosene and stripper tears."

Waking up to that almost makes up for the three hours of sleep I got last night. (And then she has the gall to look like this at 8 am. WTF BABIES.)

Good heavens, but that is cute!

I wish I'd had a camera, some of the signs in the rotunda were just so clever and awesome. My favorite was one that said something to the effect "We are prison guards who protect you from criminals. Who is going to protect us from this criminal?"

That's ok! These people have been posting pictures! [link]

I don't think anyone who isn't being dishonest can call the protesters "thugs."

Sir, it's not an offence to let your cat eat your bacon. Okay? And we don't arrest cats, I'm very sorry.

From the link:

The first video is of the Firefighter Bagpipers entering and then playing a few tunes at the center of the Rotunda. One of the tunes is Amazing Grace. This really is beautiful to see and hear. Catch the smile at the end.

Totally a bunch of thugs....

Remember that the frontier of the Rebellion is everywhere. And even the smallest act of insurrection pushes our lines forward.

2.17pm: Gaddafi is talking at long last. He starts off in bizarre fashion, accusing protesters of drinking pills that make them commit "animal acts". He says the protesters have been brainwashed by Osama bin Laden, whose people have been giving protesters these pills.
