Just what the heck is going on in #22?
I think they are waiting to be rescued and have broken windows to get out. I'm suspecting that the stairs have collapsed or the way to the stairs is blocked?

Sis & BiL checked in - all ok & in Auckland.
So glad to hear this.
Weirdly, I had an email chat with a referral who needed to put off seeing me until after a two month trip to NZ. I hope she is okay!
Man, I could never be a rescue worker. Those guys are heroes with psyches of steel. I hope the government and the applicable associations rally here.
My dad's had a few with really bad injuries or mortalities. He doesn't go into much detail.I know they are bad when he isn't going into horrific detail about the injuries. A nasty fracture with bones sticking out, he'll tell me aaaalllll about, but that's recoverable. Likely fatal injury or a kid, no detail.
My grandfather was a firefighter in Wilmington, DE, and it's always amazed me. Especially because the elderly man I remember was very quiet, very reserved, and liked nothing more than to watch golf. I wish I had pictures of young him suited up.
That last photo in the set is kind of a shock of beauty after all that destruction. Weird.
The pictures from Christchurch are horrific. Somehow it hits home a bit more when the collapsed buildings look just like the ones I see every day.
On a lighter note, have you ever felt your life would be complete if you owned a gold stump? [link]
Those pictures are, indeed, horrific. How sad for everyone involved.
I have a fantasy that the Christchurch community will snap back in impressive time. At least, that is my hope for them.
I was watching the news this morning and they had some footage from NZ--really scary stuff.
I'm hoping that I'll eventually get different images in my mind when I hear the name "Christchurch, NZ" other than Heavenly Creatures and now earthquakes.
Oh, amyth. I'm so sorry, although I know you lost your brother two months ago... it's always sudden.
