The pictures from Christchurch are horrific. Somehow it hits home a bit more when the collapsed buildings look just like the ones I see every day.
On a lighter note, have you ever felt your life would be complete if you owned a gold stump? [link]

Those pictures are, indeed, horrific. How sad for everyone involved.
I have a fantasy that the Christchurch community will snap back in impressive time. At least, that is my hope for them.
I was watching the news this morning and they had some footage from NZ--really scary stuff.
I'm hoping that I'll eventually get different images in my mind when I hear the name "Christchurch, NZ" other than Heavenly Creatures and now earthquakes.
Oh, amyth. I'm so sorry, although I know you lost your brother two months ago... it's always sudden.
My grandfather was a firefighter in Wilmington, DE
We need to figure out sometime if our families knew each other! It seems likely.
A guy Bob works with (who lives in Austin) mentioned that his family is from Wilmington and it turns out that his family owned a liquor store that had previously been my great-grandfather's "cigar store" (aka betting shop). Small town.
amyth, I know it must be a relief in a way but I'm so sorry for your loss.
amyth, I'm so sorry. Peace to everyone.

They were Harveys and Halls. And we really need to grab JenP and do a Charcoal Pit run someday.
Brenda, I hope everyone's ok at your office in Christchurch.

I expect the community will be fine. My experience with the SF earthquake was that it drew people together. And I don't think it will result in the kind of depopulation that happened in New Orleans.
I'll be curious to see how they fix that cathedral.
amyth, I'm sorry for your loss.
