Tiny little flags for some?
Back in the day, did people use, I don't know, Little Dorritt quotes as shorthand the way we do now for the Simpsons? Or other pop culture juggernauts? I can seriously have a whole conversation with Tim without ever using our own words (primarily Blue Beetle, Buffy, and LOLcats).
Steph, the response in my head was all of what you described, trust me. Including the profanity. But I didn't give into the impulse to post any of that.
Yeah, I posted about Jerry Brown cutting out swag from the state budget, and it's the most "political" thing I've posted on Facebook in quite some time. I go to Facebook to relax, here to relax and debate (and learn), and Twitter to just tell the world to shut the fuck up.
I love having different outlets.

I'm willing to discuss abortion with people who are not pro-choice, provided they can discuss it rationally, without spewing utter nonsense like "killing babies." Because as soon as I read something like that, I just want to reply, "Really? They go to hospital nurseries and kill the newborns? Or do they maybe go to daycare centers?"
And that line of questioning never ends well. Because oh, I have done it.
t edit I just remembered my most spectacularly inflammatory response to such nonsense, which was "I had no idea you hated women so much."

As soon as I saw that line, I reflexively assumed that the poster was one of the kids (and I mean KIDS, like 12 or 13 year olds) that follow me. I am probably wrong, but when I see wording like that, that's my knee-jerk response.
And I am ALWAYS a little agog that people who say they Just! Want! Government to be Smaller and Out! Of! Peoples'! Lives! are really okay with shoving the government into my uterus.
The irony burns.
