Yes, it's terribly simple. The good guys are always stalwart and true, the bad guys are easily distinguished by their pointy horns or black hats, and, uh, we always defeat them and save the day. No one ever dies, and everybody lives happily ever after.

All sorrows can be borne if you put them into a story. Tell me a story.

Damn. The four five Borders I go to the most often are all closing.

Well, crap. What will I do for two hour dinner breaks during tech when the North/Clybourn store is gone? State/Randolph will be my only remaining store.

Brenda, the Mag Mile one is already closed.

"Look, son, if it's good enough for Shirley Bassey, it's good enough for you."

PEOPLE!!! Have you seen the nightmare that is....PAJAMA JEANS?!Q?!?!?!>

See, this is what happens when you allow Snuggies. People try to wear them outside. Unleash the Tim Gunn fashion correction scorn!

I like the Borders in Union Square but generally go to B&N if I'm going to a big store.

I wonder why somebody doesn't go with the Powells' model. Buy up property in rundown downtowns for cheap, and shelve new and used books side by side. It's becoming more and more clear that you can't lease a space and make a bookstore work.

Sir, it's not an offence to let your cat eat your bacon. Okay? And we don't arrest cats, I'm very sorry.

State/Randolph will be my only remaining store.

I suppose I could schlep my tuchus down there.

'Cuz you know, sometimes I can't wait for Amazon.

We are Buffistas. This isn't our first apocalypse. -- Pix

Seriously, it came out of nowhere.

Yeah, we got some sun just now and I went out to walk the dog, and then got hit with more rain/sleet/small hail. And then in seven minutes the sun came out again. Wacky weather.

I am a woman of various inclinations and only some of the time are they to burn everything down in frustration

Hm, now I don't know whether to go run errands now and hope I don't get hailed on or just sit tight until it passes.

Kat, I think you're supposed to be filming Noah for YouTube. That's modern post-dentist parenting, right?

We're very stretchy. - Connie Neil

This is good--Keith Moreland has been named to replace the late Ron Santo on WGN radio Cubs broadcasts.

To quote Steve Goodman:

Have the Cubbies run right out into the middle of the field,
Have Keith Moreland drop a routine fly

Oh, is it really? You can tell I don't get up that way very often.

In fact, I suggest that...half the demonstrations be the firefighters and other, toughest union people...the other, cookie-baking grandmas that spend their own money to get the good markers. Of course, there are people like my mom(Proud AEA member) who could fit in both categories.

Firefighters and police were exempted from his plans, but the unions are out there in the demonstrations. As are the Packers.

I'm sad that the Borders near my parents is going, but they have opened a great B&N there. I tend to do independents and B&N when I have a book need. Borders just kept getting increasingly...downscale here. And about a decade ago I had an altercation with a worker in the Glendale one.
