It was a fantastic gift, especially considering that every weekend since my Mom passed away, I've been over at my parent's house helping clear out stuff. You know my tales of my Storage Room of Doom? Their whole house was/is like that.

So a mani/pedi with massage and wine? BRILLIANT. And soon I go put on fancy clothes, go have dinner, and then do a reading at my favorite restaurant.

Life moves pretty fast. You don't stop and look around once in a while, you could miss it.

I got some stuff done today--went in to the office, watered the plants, did the laundry and walked the dogs. Mostly I checked FB obsessively. My niece is in labor, so I am going to be a GREAT-AUNT shortly. WTF! My SiL had her daughter when she was 22, and her daughter is 20, so it isn't horrifying, but still. Don't great-aunts keep hard candies in a glass dish and smell of White Shoulders perfume?

Sometimes I trip on how happy we could be.

That sounds perfect, Jilli.

I just painted my nails red, which I guess means I'll wear a black dress tomorrow for V-Day. Red necklace.

Because books.

That's a lovely afternoon, Jilli.

Don't great-aunts keep hard candies in a glass dish and smell of White Shoulders perfume?

And wear Coty face powder, too.

Hey, I think this is a thing everyone should do, great-aunt or not.

"Look, son, if it's good enough for Shirley Bassey, it's good enough for you."

Hey, I think this is a thing everyone should do, great-aunt or not.

We were watching the scene in Coraline recently where Forcible and Spinks chip out their candy dish and realized that Emmett doesn't have a real life association with hard candy stuck in a candy dish. Unwrapped, loose and dusty.

Grandmas have ribbon candies and grandpas have those chocolate sparkles or whatever that have white sprinkles on them. And honorary grandmas next door have mexican fruit candies. At least in my experience

Sometimes I think I might just move up to Vermont, open a bookstore or a vegan restaurant. Adam Schlesinger, z''l

My grandmother always had Hershey's kisses and those strawberry hard candies in the wrappers that look like strawberries, with green on the twisty part.

My grandmother always had wintogreen lifesavers in her purse. Well, the one grandma did. The other one was better known for buying us sugary cereal when we visited (WHEEEE!)

I'm terrifically busy with my ennui.

My grandmother had Mentos. I doubt she still carries them.
