Natter 67: Overriding Vetoes
Off-topic discussion. Wanna talk about corsets, nail polish, duct tape, or physics? This is the place. Detailed discussion of any current-season TV must be whitefonted.
Any chance they are Japanese sweet potatoes? They are white inside.
I don't think so, since those are usually purple outside.
My go-to with spuds? Spanish tortilla! You'll need eggs, and anything else lying around the fridge you might throw into an omelet. (Cheese, ham, herbs, mushrooms etc.)
Not great for make-ahead! Apparently with twice-baked you can stick em in the freezer and reheat easily. That's perfect, plus I can use up spinach, feta, green onions, goat cheese, all sorts of stuff in the fridge.
Twice-baked potatoes are one of my favorite things, bon. You could also do scalloped potatoes.
We have a shitload of leftover rice from Ben's birthday dinner last night, and I need some ideas for what to do with that.
bonny! Find someone with a button box--I'd send you my grandmother's, but I gave it to a friend who makes her living from her ebay store--or who collects or keeps old photographs --also given to the ebay cause. Hey, I figure anyone willing to pay for old buttons or old photos wants them and will use them more than me. And this way my friend gets to feed herself and her rescue animals.
Anyway, among your friends and contacts must be people who collect ephemera. You can make vignettes with one or two of your hankies and sell them on etsy. Old jewelry, giftwrap, gloves, hats, veiling--all things people collect now to make their own collages, and the hankies would find some owner to appreciate them.
I taught myself to unfailingly remove my makeup at the end of the day by taking the pillowcases my mom and grandmother had embroidered and crocheted and tatted edging laces for out of the cedar chest and putting them on my bed. I gave boatloads of crocheted doilies, antimacassars, and dresser scarves away when we moved--we're so not antimacassar people. But I still have glass towels my mom used, plus a couple she got from her older brother who worked for the railroad, that he filched from the dining car. They're wonderful for drying without leaving lint.
Boil chicken parts, de-bone and cut into bite-size pieces, mix into rice with steamed broccoli florets, shredded cheese --we like cheddar, but whatever you prefer--and chicken boullion or stock in a casserole, bake for 20-30 minutes. Not very savory, but filling comfort food.

Also known as: Stuff Jilli needs to put up on eBay and Etsy.
Oh, S. just said the magic words: rice pudding. I knew I married him for a reason.
My sheets setup is pretty simple--I go for burgundy, navy, or black, and mix and match. And jewel toned blankets. I don't buy in complete sets, just bits and bobs here and there. No patterns. High thread count cotton for my normal bed, beech for the spare.
Hey, LAistas, I might need to beg a pharmacy run tomorrow. Could anyone help?
bon! We need to watch TV again soon.
Rice pudding is with leftover rice, isn't it? (x-post, of course)
Your swiped glass towels reminded me, Bev, one of our family heirlooms is some monogrammed silver - I can't remember if it is a single piece or a single place setting, but I think it's, like, a knife - that some ancestor took from a hotel (I think his employer) because it was also his initial. I think my mom has it, still.
You can give me a call ita, I should be around.
I never thought of ebaying some of the old keepsakes that have trickled into my house. Some of this stuff would make an artist wibble in excitement.
edit: though getting over the idea of a family keepsake possibly being taken apart will take some getting used to. I'm such an animist.
