Howdy! One of the kids in class the other day said "Bee-tee-double-u" - which, I'll point out, actually takes LONGER than saying "by the way".

Do you provide quiet moral support - like, "this is better because I know somewhere my buffistas are rooting for me" - or post-facto encouragement - "If I can just get this done, I get many virtual slaps on the back"? Or does ita just tell me to quit whining and do it already? What's the deal?

I think it's more "I did this! Gimme my gold star!"

Or that could just be me.

The onerous task thing is more ... knowing everyone else is doing it at the same time? And saying you're going to do it, I guess, which makes it a little more concrete.

I had less than an inch on the car this morning, so I just used the wipers on the front windshield, rolled down the side windows to clear them of snow, and turned on the rear window defroster, which cleared all the snow there within 10 minutes.

If I have a lot of snow on the car, it all gets swept off, for both my sake (making sure the snow on top doesn't slide onto the back window) and for others behind me on the road.

Last night's late swim (I didn't get into the pool until 6:50) was much better than Tuesday night's--I got in 26 laps and had much less of a problem with the legs cramping up (although there was still some crampage). It only took 62 minutes total, which is pretty good for me! I'm taking tonight off to run errands, but I'm hoping I can take a half-day off work tomorrow and go for an afternoon swim at 1:30. I'm meeting some friends for swims both days this weekend, too, so I think I'll be on track to get up to that mile on Sunday like I'm shooting for.

Ah. So it's more a thing that I need to do at *some* point, then something that I really have to do today, encouragement or no. Like - shudder - cleaning.

Jesus Christ. The local newscasters just interrupted the woman giving the business report from NY to inform her that all the guys in the newsroom find her very attractive and pay extra attention to the business report. What the everloving fuck?

I would have said something like "You seem to think that it's a compliment, so I suppose I should thank you for the sentiment. However, I'll give you some free advice to avoid future lawsuits -- it's not a compliment"
