Mal: Gotta say, doctor, your talent for alienatin' folk is near miraculous. Simon: Yes, I'm very proud.

I must obey the inscrutable exhortations of my soul—Calvin and Hobbs

I wasn't named for someone as much as I was named anything but for my great-grandmother Henrika, for whom my grandmother thought I should be named. I'm so glad my schoolmates didn't have the ammo to rename me "Reek-ee". Anyway, my folks put together a list of a few naming combos and let my sister-to-be pick.

Anyone else have your pen/stage/ alias name picked out, or is that my own little oddity? I mean, aside from those of you who have actual pen or stage names. Or, um, aliases.

I like the idea of using my maternal grandmother's maiden last name as my pen last name, but the first name changes. Every now and then I'll think about what would make a good alias. "Sarah" something's winning at the moment, because there are so many in my general age and socio-economic group that another would just blend in. (I tend to assume that if I'm using an alias I want to blend.)

Porn name: Skippy North. Maybe that would work for some sort of Norse Lolita act, but otherwise it doesn't sound that porny to me.

I remember the crazy days. 500 posts an hour. Nubmer! Natgbsb

Not named for anyone, neither is my brother. mac's middle names are for my 2 grandfathers: Jody Lee.

I am very pleased with myself. Yesterday I knit a Christmas stocking ornament without using a pattern, it took about 4 tries, but I got it. Today I am doing a mirror of it so I can sew them together and have an ornament. I am going to make them for my family as part of next year's gifts. Also a way to use up some acrylic my grandmother gave me.

My mom was so sure I was going to be a boy that she hadn't picked out a girl's name at all for me. So she let the nurses at the hospital name me. They were also co-workers of my Dad's at the time, not total strangers, but still! Although, even if I've sometimes wanted a more interesting name, I do love my name. So it all worked out!

The artist formerly associated with cupcakes.

I was named after a character in Stranger In A Strange Land. (Mom was reading it while pregnant w/ me.) They changed the spelling to with a "J" so I wouldn't be called Gilly with a hard "G" sound. My middle name is a combination of my paternal grandmother and great-grandmother's names. However, until I was about 15, my parents had convinced me that my middle name was Vegomatic.

A dress should be tight enough to show you're a woman but loose enough to flee from zombies. — Ginger

My porn name is Bambi Ashland.

Yeah, I named the dog when I was little. After a deer.

I’m responsible for my own happiness? I can’t even be responsible for my own breakfast! (Bojack Horseman)

However, until I was about 15, my parents had convinced me that my middle name was Vegomatic.

HAR. That is awesome.

We're very stretchy. - Connie Neil

Brrr, my office is freezing!! I can't wait to get out of here at 5:00 and head home after making a few stops, including filling up my gas tank in 8 degree temperature--brrr! At least I'll be able to warm up after getting home. If my chicken is thawed out that I put in the fridge this morning, I'll be finally cooking my lemon chicken. I'm also going to make another batch of turkey chili this weekend.

I've got my first two days of my Library Management class this weekend. Only problem is that I'll be sitting in the classroom while the game is going on Sunday, damnit! I'm already planning on telling my classmates not to leak any info on the class if they get updates on break, because I'm dvring it and want to watch it unspoiled when I get home around 6:00.

Bob's learned to live with tragedy, but he knows that this tragedy is one that won't ever leave him or get better.

However, until I was about 15, my parents had convinced me that my middle name was Vegomatic.

Your dad still has me convinced that it really is Vegomatic.

I assume you claim otherwise because of your total need to fit in and not seem weird or something.

I am a woman of various inclinations and only some of the time are they to burn everything down in frustration

{{{Jilli}}}

My porn name would be Buffy Degnan. Not bad.

Ooh, naming conventions, I have lots of family lore!

For me, my paternal grandmother gave my mother a list of acceptable Russian girl's names and my mom picked the one she liked best, and then tacked Marie on in the middle because it flows nicely.

My mom was named almost like lisah - Grandma and Grandpa hadn't considered the possibility of a girl, so when mom was born Grandma panicked and Grandpa instantly suggested Shirleymae Elizabeth. No one knows where that came from.

Dad was named for Prince Igor like the opera and (I believe) the Firebird, because his father was Oleg.

My grandfather's family named the boys by where they were born, which is how Grandpa got to be called Weed. They put Guido on his birth certificate, but everyone called him Weed and he legally changed it when he grew up. I know he had a brother named Reno but I forget the rest of the brothers' names.
