No, I mean the guy who was saying teaching on the theme of "racism is bad, mmkay!" in TKAM was teaching a belief, was saying that skirts close to teaching religion.
Surely history teaches us that morality and religion have no relation to each other.

Ok, now I'm back to being confused. Does this "society doesn't have a problem with a teacher expressing the position that racism is wrong (in fact, I have taught lessons on that). Society also says teachers will be neutral on religion. As long as teachers know wha...t is acceptable and what is not, they shouldn't have problems." read the way I think it does?
Ginger, not no relation, but I don't think it has an absolute relation. As an atheist I'd be offended by a suggestion that it was. Not that that doesn't happen all the time anyway, I'm just not allowed to be offended by it.
ok, does "burning crosses into students arms" mean he was BRANDING MINORS? Because that shoulda got him fired ASAP.
ok, trying not to worry. Worrying will not make anything better or worse anyway.
I haven't looked at this yet, but here's tons of info on the teacher, from Panda's Thumb: [link]

Or arrested. Seriously.
Black Panthers are considered leftist?
How are Black Panthers not considered leftist? They were thugs and often appalling, but they were at the left end of the spectrum on all issues. Feminists (not in practice but in theory), pro-labor, actually did have an awesome breakfast program, pro-environment etc.... I thinking saying someone who is not awesome is not from our end of the spectrum because they are not awesome is called the "No true Scotsman" fallacy.
[On Edit: maybe some confusion with the Nation of Islam? Really good arguments for their being on the right end of the spectrum in 60s and maybe even today.]
The larger issue though: even in 60s and 70s I think there was more violence from the right than from the left, especially since much of it was sponsored by police officers and governors and such. But at that time the argument "both sides do it" might have had some validity even though both sides did not do it equally. Today, the problem of violence in politics in the USA is overwhelmingly a problem of violent right wingers. Maybe some exceptions, but damn few.
Also I will say that in spite of my finding the Panthers appalling, Angela Davis was awesome and still is.

The termination resolution doesn't mention the cross-burning at all. Huh.

Yeah. I skimmed through the site, and only found references to a parent's complaint and a lawsuit.
