Pretty much what they did, IMO - reported what they had heard (given it was coming two plausible sources) with a ton of caveats around the general reliability of information in the midst of turmoil.
They were in a basket in the kitchen, you can all breathe a sigh of relief. whew, that was tense there for a bit.
