The real crime is I have nothing to wear.

Off-topic discussion. Wanna talk about corsets, nail polish, duct tape, or physics? This is the place. Detailed discussion of any current-season TV must be whitefonted.
Do it*, megan!!
[*for all values of "it" that encompass meeting people in a public place, and only going anywhere similarly public if they seem fairly normal and not axe-murdery]
Nothing to wear is never a problem when buffistas are on the case! When is the event? If you wear anything from an 8 to a 12, I have several formal gowns I could bring you...
I'm afraid that this event is going to require an urban semi-formal scruffy chic that even if I possessed I wouldn't possess.
scruffy chic?? people don't dress for the symphony/opera? I'm so disappointed.
Well, it's a preview event. From what I can tell, there's discussion of the work, presentation of the staging, and musical excerpts. It seems to be mostly for donors and critics.
(And the only opera that people really "dressed" for this season was Cyrano with Placido Domingo.)
Suit update!
I was sort of limited in my selections by what they had available in my size, so my choice was mostly made for me. I mean, they all basically looked the same, so I picked the one that felt the nicest. After picking the black suit, I looked at some of the other options, but they didn't have a lot of taupe/olive to choose from. There was one that looked pretty snazzy, but I decided to go with the navy blue as my second suit, as it's more versatile, and a navy blue blazer is useful to have. Hell, it looked really nice with the pants I was wearing at the time. I ended up picking the exact same suit I'd picked in black, just in navy. Pronto Uomo! It's fancy and Italian! I guess it means I will uomo soon.
I wasn't intending to buy shoes too, but they had some at half-off, so I gave them a look. Except apparently casual shoe sizes and dress shoe sizes are different, and they didn't have the shoe I wanted in my tiny foot size or whatever. Dress shoes are tight and uncomfortable! I have only worn business casual shoes, I guess. The shoes we finally found for me were not half-off, but he knocked thirty bucks off for me, so...I probably could have gotten cheaper shoes somewhere else, but I was there and I need them by Friday and I need a real pair of dress shoes. I think I will have to break them in to get used to them before the party.
I have never spent so much on clothing before. I kind of feel like a grown-up professional.
Man, I'm so disillusioned, Megan. I thought that all opera required fancy dresses.
... to be fair, the only opera I remember attending (The Marriage of Figaro, in Florence) I wore a knee-length polka-dot dress. So not exactly floor length or particularly fancy, although I like to think it has a vintagey kind of allure.
I called T-Mobile about my phone and they say I have to file a claim with UPS and then T-Mobile can send me a new phone.
I'm still outraged; I have had stuff delivered here by UPS for ten years without a problem. New guy, maybe?
Sending much ~ma and good thoughts to Jilli and her mom. How scary!
After picking the black suit,
::fist pump::
megan, trusty our sense of style! Get fancy for the opera.
Hell, opening night at the SF Opera is one of the fanciest dress events in the country.
