She's terse. I can be terse. Once in flight school, I was laconic.

"It didn't taste good. It tasted soooo horrible. It tasted like....a vodka martini." - Matilda

You can't demonize your opponents for years without this kind of thing happening.

That's just what I was thinking. Once enough people believe that normal political discourse is treason and that the other side is going to turn the country into a police state and kill their grandparents, the road to protest by violent means is pretty short.

And a grocery store on a Saturday - you couldn't pick a busier place.

I agree - you have to be careful about the images you use - of course, assuming that Palin only meant the sites metaphorically.

That assumes that Palin knows what metaphorically means.

I haven't trusted science since I saw the film "Flubber."

Palin's not the only one. Wasn't it Sharon Angle talking about the "Second Amendment solution"?

A witness says that the Congresswoman was shot in the head pointblank.

This was on CNN. CNN also says that the congresswoman and a number of the wounded are in surgery.

How can we expect our representatives to maintain public contact when this sort of horror happens?

Obama says that some have passed away and that Congresswoman Giffords has been grievously wounded.

Our wings are not tired.

NY Times report said that the shooter went up behind her, where she stood behind a table greeting constituents. The report says the shooter aimed at her head from about a foot away and fired several rounds. I don't know how she's still in surgery, much less talking on the way in. A miracle.

Sir, it's not an offence to let your cat eat your bacon. Okay? And we don't arrest cats, I'm very sorry.

Oh god, bon. I've been waiting for this to happen. Times article: [link]

Yeah, can't say I'm surprised.

I wonder if this will have any effect on the rhetoric of the Right....

What are the U.S. Capitol police? Are they a special unit just for congress?

Throughout the years, our primary responsibilities have remained the same. Our main focus still lies in protecting life and property; preventing, detecting, and investigating criminal acts; and enforcing traffic regulations throughout a large complex of congressional buildings, parks, and thoroughfares. Additionally, we are responsible for protecting Members of Congress, Officers of the United States Senate, United States House of Representatives, and their families. We serve these individuals throughout the entire United States, its territories and possessions, and throughout the District of Columbia.
