[NAFDA] Spike-centric discussion. Lusty, lewd (only occasionally crude), risqué (and frisqué), bawdy (Oh, lawdy!), flirty ('cuz we're purty), raunchy talk inside. Caveat lector.

Love is stronger than death and harder than sorrow. Those who practice it are fierce like the light of stars traveling eons to pierce the night.

Sending all my love and best "be at peace with whatever you decide" vibes to smonster.

Life moves pretty fast. You don't stop and look around once in a while, you could miss it.

javachick is wise.

The organization moves donated homes that were slated for demolition and rehabs them for sale at cost to low-income families. It also provides green building job training to the chronically unemployed/those reentering society. So it hits reuse, green building, housing equality, and social justice issues.

Best/worst - best is that I LOVE IT and am able to move down to NOLA. Worst is that I go deeper into debt and the org goes under in less than a year.

That man was going to shank me. Over an omelette. Two eggs and a slice of government cheese. Is that what my life is worth?

I like making pro and con lists. Having everything detailed on paper makes it more concrete to me and easier to decide.

How long has the org been in existance? What are their financials like? Do they have good development people who know how to raise funds?

They've been around for two years, I think. I don't know how to analyze financials, but their annual report is online and has some info - [link] - page 10. My hs friend who used to work for them in accounting said they were taking more risks than he would have liked, but is cautious by self-admission.

A dress should be tight enough to show you're a woman but loose enough to flee from zombies. — Ginger

What are living costs in NOLA comped to where you are now? If it does tank in a year, are there jobs in NOLA in your area of passion? What's the longevity of your job right now?

Do they offer one of those payable health thingies, you know, like a health savings account?

I agree; I love a pro/con list, but put tangibles and intangibles on it.

You could get hit by a airplane toilet tomorrow. If it worth it to try to follow your passion, even if it doesn't pan out? Will you regret it if you don't try?

What's your gut say?

I think they're about comparable, but I haven't found a good website. A lot will depend on where I live in NOLA.

If it does tank in a year, are there jobs in NOLA in your area of passion?

Yes.

What's the longevity of your job right now?

Signs aren't great - the department that pays my bills just laid off 5 people; the department I work for (long story) has been planning to roll my salary into their budget but haven't done it yet. If it came time for layoffs, I think I'd be vulnerable.

Do they offer one of those payable health thingies, you know, like a health savings account?

I don't think so. My current job does.

This website says NOLA is cheaper, but mostly b/c of housing and I'm a little sceptical of their algorithm. [link]
