[NAFDA] Spike-centric discussion. Lusty, lewd (only occasionally crude), risqué (and frisqué), bawdy (Oh, lawdy!), flirty ('cuz we're purty), raunchy talk inside. Caveat lector.

I know a family practice/criminal law attorney who set up on his own for good reasons. He decided to charge $65 an hour to get people who could not afford normal attorney fees. And still not getting all that much business. Don't know if it is the normal thing of starting a practice takes time, plus bad times or if the low price is a mistake. (There is this whole "signaling" thing in psychology and sociology where if you offer something at too good a price, people will assume something is wrong and look for something in a more typical price range.) At any rate a data point to consider.

“Not dead yet!”

"Helluva day at sea, sir!" (/Overboard)

Sadly, I knew this without the reference.

Yay Drew for homesness.

Boo, people not smart enough to hire Stephanie.

Yay for sleeping at night, Erin.

Now I'm just needing some calm ~ma, waiting for legal from my publisher to call so we can figure out how to word the fuck off and die letter.

Shit, Stephanie that sucks. You really need something.

Update - hiring dude acknowledged my message and said he'd get back to me with answers. Not sure when, I'm hoping by COB today. Have told boss that I'd like a few minutes with her, but our schedules may not mesh until tomorrow.

Happy birthday! No reason to panic--are they really likely to discuss and come back and say "well in that case we take it back and don't want you even at the original salary!"

Fuck off and die.

Trust my rage

Thanks, everyone. I always feel so lucky to have you guys.

I think in my case, the issue is that I don't want to work in Denver long term. It's 70 miles from my house and I'm now doing that every day. So I have to figure out if I stay here a whlie to gain money and experience or if I leave now. Profesionally, it's a bit early, I think, but with Joe deploying, we will have more financial stability/cushion than we will in the future.

I now have pretty good contacts where I live. I guess it's just a matter of parlaying that into business. (Did I use that word correctly? I can hear it in my head but it looks weird.)

Barb, in terms of wording, I wonder if your lawyer can work in a reference to Arkell v. Pressdram (1971). (Worth clicking the link if you don't already know the story.)

How are you me? You need to stop that. Only I can be me. ~Kara

I'm sorry about the job, Stephanie. Maybe that Joe is deploying could be a good excuse to bail now.

edit: meant to add, I could have sworn you had a Nook, Erin. bummer. Well, the offer to share is open to anyone who gets one.

Our wings are not tired.

Tough decision, Stephanie. The commute and the overall situation sounds brutal. If you can manage it, a new plan might be the best idea.
