[NAFDA] Spike-centric discussion. Lusty, lewd (only occasionally crude), risqué (and frisqué), bawdy (Oh, lawdy!), flirty ('cuz we're purty), raunchy talk inside. Caveat lector.

"And to be clear, I am the hell. And the high water."

Vortex's recipe is a good one. My favorite is Thomas Keller's recipe:

Shit's all sorts of different now.

Aims if there is a Borders in your area

I live in (near)Ann Arbor. Where Borders started. It's safe to say we have a few. Them closing has been a huge thing here since their corporate headquarters are here. Half my friends used to work for them.

Which is to say, good call!! I'll totally go check them out.

bt, good grief! What an epic mess, poor Wallybee's parents and aunt and uncle.

York

sj, we were there this summer and while it's cool to see, it is a TON of walking. I was exhausted after walking from the far away parking, up to Clifford's Tower, then over to the Shambles, then to York Minster. I've was so glad we got to sit and wait for the tour at York Minster.

Also, Nice job on the travel savings!

Every now and then, I think I might actually be a little odd.

Bt, that's hysterically awful. The poor parents! And his poor wife. At least she gets to divorce the rat; his parents are stuck with him.

"Cry havoc and let slip the boobs of war!" -- Miracleman

I love fennel but don't have any but I can make a run to the store and get some.

Unless you just want fennel, you don't really have to make a special trip. Just add some more onion.

I wonder if I could do sweet potato wedges instead of white potato. I have some I need to use up and I've had them with fennel and thyme before.

Absolutely!

Also, you don't need to melt the butter. If you leave it out for a bit, you can just smear room temp butter over the skin. Eliminates the need for the fancy brush :)

I’m responsible for my own happiness? I can’t even be responsible for my own breakfast! (Bojack Horseman)

Wallybee's cousin is reportedly displaying no contrition for having created this utter clusterfrak either. (I would hope his mother landing in hospital revised his position somewhat.)

I very much doubt it would, as he sounds like an enormous dickwad. Seriously, WTF guy?

That's what the Thomas Kellor recipe said to do. I think I'm going to combine them - use the seasonings and flavors from Ina Garten's but the cooking method from Thomas Kellor (smear butter, roast breast side down and then flip).

I have a pie pumpkin from the farmer's market I probably won't cook that tomorrow, maybe wait until Thursday. I also have a seasoning packet from one of the other vendors - garlic, star anise, cinnamon, ginger, clove - that I'm going to use on the pumpkin. Maybe cut in wedges and roast it.

I'm actually getting really excited about fall and the produce - maybe because Fall is rather non existent in Florida that I like it and look forward to it the way most people look forward to Spring veggies. Although after a couple of Falls and Winters in Vermont that will probably change.

Bob's learned to live with tragedy, but he knows that this tragedy is one that won't ever leave him or get better.

Ahh, that lovely feeling when you check an email account for the first time in, oh, maybe a week or two and realize you have an appointment in the morning. Such a relaxing 2 a.m. feeling. Coulda been worse. Coulda checked it tomorrow afternoon.

Also I figured out earlier what my Not Hating Trader Joe's Produce thing is. I tend not to get loose stuff there. Unless it's a rock-hard avocado that I can ripen at home (and, I've just recently had good luck with those) or bananas that aren't ripe but show if they've been squished. Because the nectarine that I bought a couple of days ago wasn't ripe last night and it already had a couple of rotted spots. Tonight the 80% that I didn't cut away was magnificent. But it's hard to cull fruit like that. Those clam shell things they have for fruit are clearly used for a reason and I need my stone fruit to come from those. It's tragic to lose nectarine-age.

Bed now.

I'm worried there is going to be a lot of walking in the various places were going, but we're going to hop on tour buses wherever possible and suck it up and pay for taxis when I can't taking it any more.

Speaking of which, I must go to the gym today. I must get over my anxiety about no PT compounded by the anxiety about not having gone yet and just go. t still trying to convince myself
