Well, we were a little discouraged by the fact that he pulled his catheter out despite all the precautions taken by the vet's (he is far too smart for his own good) TWICE since we saw him Saturday (including last night.)
Since he'd yanked the thing right out of his urethra, they just cleaned him up and brought him down to hang out in the consulting room sans catheter, collar, popsicle stick corset, and IV. It was good to interact with him outside of all the medical equipment and he was having a high old time stretching his legs and jumping and hiding and scratching the carpet, but we were pretty concerned that the fact that he pulled the catheter out early meant that the healing process hadn't finished and we'd have to try again or do the surgery.
But, the vet tech brought in a litter box and while the vet was in there talking to us about next steps, HE WENT IN THERE AND PEED. Not just a couple of drops squeezed out through straining, but a fast, easy, normal pee.
The vet almost started crying in relief! (us too, of course.) A few minutes later we heard her make an announcement to the entire staff over the loudspeaker that "Taz urinated!"
SO! They are going to continue monitoring him through the day and odds are good that we can bring him home today! (trying not to get too excited, lest my hopes be dashed.)
