Now I did a job. I got nothing but trouble since I did it, not to mention more than a few unkind words as regard to my character so let me make this abundantly clear. I do the job. And then I get paid.

What you need to do is get the real estate agent. She should have a key and tell people that if they don't make an appoint, she will simply bring you over. Of course the law varies from state to state, but in Texas that was done all the time when I lived there immediately after the Texas real estate crash.
Yeah TB, this is all through my agent. I just wanted to see the damn property. It's in a eh area, and I wanted to see if it was even worth it. They didn't post any pictures in MLS. It's 2 miles from any notable grocery store, and smack dag in the middle of no freeways. So it's far from good location. Which might explain why I can afford it. But I'm getting real close to throwing my hands up and saying screw it! I can't afford housing in SoCal, even in a down market!

Plus, all the BS in Washington right now, makes me wonder if trying to buy a home at this moment is the best of ideas.

But I need to move out of this apartment. Tired of the lack of maintanence the owner approves, and my house filling with bad pot smoke, since the neighbor loves to smoke EVERYWHERE in the building (his porch, which wafts into my apartment. The garage. The lobby. The side door by the elevator, which then wafts up the elevator shaft). Dude! Go somewhere else to smoke!!

sorry. I kinda got ranty there. I don't care if you do pot, I just don't want to smell it. And if I do smell it, please make it the nice smelling pot. Not the skunky crap.

Yeah, your agent if she is any good ought to be able to get you a chance to see the property whether the people in foreclosure want you to or not.

Well, there is that too. She's a friend. Been doing it for about 5 years now, and surviving in this economy, so I thought she is good. But I dunno. This being my first time, I have nothing to compare it to. But it seems she has created an MLS search in her program, and it flags properties that fit my general guidelines. But no calls of "oh, I hear about this property that is about to be listed" like I recall the agent did when I moved in High School. But that was pre-internet MLS days in the 1980's.

that is not a good sign. Can you tell your friend that you'd like her to be more aggressive? If she is the person you need right now, she should step up to the plate.

beth,

you are right of course. no further comment except you are 100% correct. I would make you a badge or banner, but my art skills are for shit.

Every now and then, I think I might actually be a little odd.

Zen, I begin to wonder if we were separated at birth. I spent hte summer before my senior year of high school on a dig in northwestern Pennsylvania, and I still regret not having gone after it as a job. Sure, I'd probably never have gotten a job, but the classes would have made me happy.

Connie, for me it was the summer between my sophomore and junior years of college, at a dig in northwestern Washington State. I loved it, but by summer's end I was sure I didn't want to do it for the rest of my life! I like taking showers every day and sleeping in a bed. I'm soft and spoiled. I'd go on another dig in a heartbeat, though.

You should know I'm a big deal in the Resistance.

Have been contacted by ex husband. It's been 10 years. I think I'm OK.

I like taking showers every day and sleeping in a bed.

Heh, mine was a dig based out of a college, and we were bused back to the dorms every night. Comparatively posh.

Yikes, Laga!

Thanks for the advice, bonny, though it makes me want to cry. I have passed it on to my hippie cleaning lady and my realtor.

Speaking of which, there's an open house scheduled today at 1:30EST, so please send many vibes that someone loves it!

Calm~ma vibes for Laga and Nora with additional sell~ma to Nora.

So, we are seriously considering relocating to South Carolina in the next few years. Are we insane? Big pluses include being near a lot of my family, being able to afford a nice house, and just all around less chaotic than SoCal. Minuses? Well, the biggest is that we would be a gay family living in the conservative South. I'm not sure just how terrible that might be. Buffistas that live in the South, what do you think?

Buffistas that live in the South, what do you think?

I live in NC rather than SC, so my experiences might not be spot on. Anyway, there are liberal pockets in NC, such as large parts of Durham, nearly all of Chapel Hill, and parts of Raleigh, where I think gay families could live with a minimum of hassle. However, there are also large swathes of the state where I would have concerns.

I believe SC is somewhat more conservative than NC.
