Ya'lls libraries suck. I can put up to 15 items (books, dvds, cds, whatev) on hold and they'll get transferred from whatever county branch has the next available copy at no cost. If no branch has it, then i'm SOL and go buy it online or at Powells. I can't imagine having to pay more than cover price on a trade paperback to borrow something from the library :( But i do love mine and use it heavily. Like, i pretty much always have 15 items on hold at any given time and at least 2 items checked out. I can't imagine what i'd do without it...borrow more from friends and waste astonishing amounts on books that would just clutter up my nice neat shelves.
Spike's Bitches 46: Don't I get a cookie?
[NAFDA] Spike-centric discussion. Lusty, lewd (only occasionally crude), risqué (and frisqué), bawdy (Oh, lawdy!), flirty ('cuz we're purty), raunchy talk inside. Caveat lector.
Sorry for the leg pain, Daniel.
I'm back home, slowly recovering in front of the TV. I'd share what I'm watching, but I fear you'll all mock me, people without fever and with rational thinking. And it's not that I watched this movie before and loved it without fever. My, not at all.
As for libraries: as a librarian's daughter, I never had to spend any time at all at libraries. The books just came home with my dad.
I'm back to more TV and more movies and sage tea and recovering. I hope other Buffistas are recovering too (and not that I'm comparing their situation, which is/was much much more serious to mine. I really don't).
Spidra, you (and any California resident) can use any library within the UC or Cal State systems, though you may not have borrowing priviledges at the Cal State libraries. UCLA is far by public transport from you, but CSLA, NSM.
Also, you should be able to use LAPL and if you took the gold line you can get right downtown to the Central Library, which has an amazing collection.
I have not really been buying books this year and last because I'm the opposite of Seska, I haven't wanted to re-read stuff and I'm not really reading stuff for my students. It's been nice and a huge savings to use the library. So I don't get to read Mockingjay when it's first out, BFD. I still get to read it.
I love the library system here and the librarians. Almost every week, I have something on reserve to get.
Sorry for the leg pain, Daniel.
So it was YOU! Lay off my leg!
hee.
Mask taking a bit of getting used to.
I slept for about 4 hours more, took off the mask to get up for mother nature, but immediately fell asleep without it for two hours. sigh.
I've been using the library much less since I got my Kindle. Not because the selection is better, but because browsing the library website means I can reserve a book to pick up later and browsing on the Kindle means I can have the book NOW. It's such a terrible waste of money but I can't stop myself!
Jessica, my sistah! I have a Kindle Problem.
Happy birthday, P-C!
I have been downloading a lot of classics on the kindle for $1 or free. $9.99 for newer books has mostly kept me from downloading them. A couple dollars less and I would probably be downloading a ton of them.
ION: licorice, as any anise related products, is the devil's work. But apparently it really helps to get you to get on your feet in tea with cinnamon (though I held my breath in order to drink that poison).
Happy Birthday, P-C!
sj, most of the books I download are between $3 and $7, which is why I find it so hard to resist.
ETA: ah, the anise debate. I luvre it.
