I think I have a virus or something, in very predictable, what-happens-as-soon-as-semester-ends style. The Girl is away till Friday, I don't have a PCA this week (they all took vacation time, helpfully) and I'm living on cereal bars. Also it's Holy Week and I can't get to church (and I have six services to sing in from tomorrow, when I need to be able at least to sit upright). And I smell. Sod it, I'm going to order pizza and download movies. Any recommendations? I have not seen many classic movies.

My usual recommendation for cheerful is "Here Comes the Groom," which is just totally bizarre as it tries to put together about ten different stories, very few of which would make any sense even on their own.
Fab. I shall look up both of those movies. I also want to see The Exorcist (I know, I can't believe I've reached the age of 32 without seeing it, either) but I should probably watch that one before it gets dark.

Seska, I hope you are pampering yourself with movies and pizza. I just watched Jaws for the first time ever this weekend and totally loved it. It's not really a feel-good flick, but it is highly entertaining.
For classics, I'd recommend Bringing Up Baby, It Happened One Night, Harvey, Some Like It Hot, The Court Jester, and The Philadelphia Story.
I remember seeing Jaws in the theater when it came out. I was only 9 years old, but surprisingly enough, I didn't have any nightmares afterwards. (My sister, two years older, did--she dreamt that the shark was walking down our hallway. Yes, Landshark, the summer before that SNL skit!)
I'm also with anyone who recs Auntie Mame. Rosalind Russell is the perfect tonic for everything.

Seska, I'd second ChiKat's list. Also My Man Godfrey and Libeled Lady. I'd add Bombshell, which isn't as well known but has the greatest temper tantrum ever filmed. Plus a rather obscure one called It's Love I'm After.
The Thin Man is technically a mystery, but it's also one of the funniest movies of the '30s.

I slept in until noon, pretty much. Couldn't get to sleep last night b/c I had sweet tea at dinner. Ehh, I figure I deserve to enjoy my fist day off. Still going to be productive, eventually.
