English is my first (and really only) language and it still gives me trouble. I'm often sad that Esperanto didn't catch on.

of course. I do sometimes hide my hands under the table because I'm embarassed to be seen 'counting on my fingers'.
I figure it just looks like I'm fidgeting. I haven't been busted yet. Though I'm pretty sure I get a fairly dumb look on my face while I do it.

Same here. It's a great way to keep count if you don't have another way to make a tally.
