Spike's Bitches 46: Don't I get a cookie?

[NAFDA] Spike-centric discussion. Lusty, lewd (only occasionally crude), risqué (and frisqué), bawdy (Oh, lawdy!), flirty ('cuz we're purty), raunchy talk inside. Caveat lector.

Sometimes I think I might just move up to Vermont, open a bookstore or a vegan restaurant. Adam Schlesinger, z''l

I'm thinking about starting a food/cooking blog. I have no inspiration for what to name it. This may be because I don't really have a good focus for it yet -- I'm figuring it'll mostly be stuff that's quick and easy but good and healthy, with occasional interludes of "I have a long weekend and a huge box of oranges and grapefruit -- I'm going to make marmalade!" (I have no idea what is up with my mother's need to send me citrus. But every winter, she goes to visit her friend in Florida, visits an orchard, and sends me a box of about 30 pounds of citrus.)

Hil, could you let me know if you do start up that blog? My niece is a vegan, and my mom's tearing out her hair trying to come up with new meals for her that aren't the same old thing.

Sure, I'll let you guys know when I get it started. With probably the world's most boring name, like "Hillary's Vegan Food."

Kathy, is there any particular type of food or cooking that she's looking for or that she likes? I can probably recommend some cookbooks or blogs.

I really don't know. I'll be talking to Mom later today, and I'll be sure to ask her. Thanks for the help!

One cookbook that I'd recommend for practically anyone is Vegan with a Vengeance. It's a good selection of all different sorts of stuff, most of it fairly simple to make, and just about everything I've tried from that book has been good. The same author has a longer book called Veganomicon which is really good, too, but it's got a lot more complicated recipes and things that might take forever, along with the simpler ones. She's also got a new low-fat one out called Appetite for Reduction, and I've been making a lot of things from that lately, and I've liked nearly all of it, but, since it is a weight loss cookbook, it doesn't have the fun stuff like pancakes and cookies that the others have.

"And that's why God Almighty gave us fire insurance and the public defender".

Hil, sounds like a great idea.

And I'm in favor that the words "vegan", "math" and "kosher" will be in the blog's title.

Discuss.

Vegan with a vengeance is really good. I got it out of our library and I think I only made one thing from it, but there was a lot of stuff that looked worth trying
