Verdict Diagnosis: Pleurisy!

Dude, who GETS pleurisy?!? They tested my oxygen with that finger-monitor thingy (it was 100%), and Awesome Doctor listened to my lungs extensively and said there was NO wheezing and no junk (like lots of mucus) that would indicate pneumonia.

I asked him why the shortness of breath, and he said partially because I was trying to not cough and partially because the inflammation from pleurisy can put enough pressure on the lungs that they feel like they can't fully expand.

So. I got a steroid shot for the inflammation (in the ass; truefax: when I said, "I have to get a shot in the butt?!?", Awesome Doctor said, "Yep, you're getting a butt-shot!"), codeine* because my cough won't go away, and an antibiotic because (1) I've been sick for 3 weeks and (2) I am now blowing green stuff out of my nose. (I know green doesn't necessarily mean bacterial infection, but Awesome Doctor said he really thinks after 3 weeks of an illness that only got progressively worse, antibiotics were called for. So I acquiesced.)

*The codeine is just in the form of Tylenol 3. When I said my cough wasn't helped by the Tessalon Pearls (I know we talked about these in-thread a month or so ago), I said, "I hate to ask for codeine, but..." and Awesome Doctor interrupted, "Why? Lots of people come in here and ask for it!" He asked me if I wanted a cough syrup or pills, and I said, "Oh, definitely pills; I hate cough syrup! I didn't know pills were an option."

And he said that the pill option is just Tylenol 3. Basically the body doesn't give a shit what the delivery vehicle is for the codeine; it just knows it's gotten codeine. So that's cool.

I hope the pleurisy clears up quickly, Steph. As vaguely 19th century-sounding ailments go, I guess it beats consumption.

I was sort of hoping for consumption *just* because of how cool it sounds. As a disease, however, it would suck. (And I've been immunized for it.)

Codeine, woo!

What else besides ramen can you scoop? YOU CAN SCOOP THIS WORLD FROM DARKNESS!

Pleurisy sounds like a really sick Morrissey cover band.

We won’t stop until everyone is gay.

TB means no alcohol for six months, so pleurisy is probably preferable. Quick healing to you.

Surgery~ma sent from NC.

I am drinking bourbon and ginger and watching Leverage. These things are making my evening tolerable.

It does!

So, I'm sick. Fever, aches, shivering. And then JZ got a call from school - Matilda had thrown up. Yay! The timing couldn't be better!

surgery -ma for Grace, and more surgery -ma for Frank's brother.

"Look, son, if it's good enough for Shirley Bassey, it's good enough for you."

I'm hoping it's quick passing. Ibuprofen alleviated a lot of my symptoms, but I will be home tomorrow with Matilda. Never fun being sick taking care of a sick kid.

And I really need this to clear up quick, as we're scheduled to have a guest over on Wednesday night, plus I'll be tour guiding around the city.

If you're going through hell/keep on going/don't slow down/keep your fear from showing/you might be gone/'fore the devil even knows you're there

~ma to all the sickos.

My xmas fail continues unabated. Went out this afternoon and found two tiny things for gifties, and a really nice agate necklace for myself. (It was half off! More than half, because it was originally $85 but the way they wrote it it looked like $58 so when I protested they gave it to me for half of that. So it was totally Not My Fault. Right?)
