Love Actually

Now you've all got me thinking about it, I know I've seen this movie at least twice, and I swear I cannot remember it. Hugh Grant was in it, and his story was stupid, and Colin went to America to get laid, and that was kinda stupid, and that's all I remember.

I really wanna go back to bed.

Oddly, when I think about any individual "love" story in Love Actually, I'm not a huge fan. The dad! Except it's really about the son, it's ridiculous, and the dad ends up with...Claudia Schiffer? WTF? The maid! Except...they can't even speak each other's language, and hardly know each other. Emma Thompson...has a shitty husband. And on and on. And yet, I love it anyway.

All right, y'all. Talk me down, please. I'm in a mild panic about tonight and can't concentrate on anything. I may be forced to start folding laundry for therapy.

Hey Barb, you can give me a good substitute for the word "inadequate", because I'm writing a report and I need to say that the current plan isn't working, but the person who created the current plan may read this, and I don't want to hurt her feelings. I actually like her.

How about variations on "insufficient" or "lacking"? Perhaps not quite as harsh as inadequate?

Barb, you are going to be great because you love the material. If you concentrate on what YOU love, the audience will follow. If you worry too much about what other people think, it will turn the energy into the opposite of what you want.

Do you have a couple of good questions to ask the audience after the reading? "What did you all think of the scene where____?" "What was it like for you to hear_____?" Engaging them is a great way to get a favorable response.

I've seen Malcolm Gladwell use this technique with great effect.

I would probably use a phrase like "has room for improvement" or "could be improved by/with" or whatever....

I like insufficient. There's a monetary aspect, so it works well there as well.
