South Pacific does have the song "You've Got to Be Carefully Taught", so they're aware of the racism.
Yes, but even in that scene, the message is essentially that racism is bad because it means white guys can't fuck hot Polynesian chicks without people looking at them funny. At no point does the play ever address the fact that racism primarily hurts people of color.

I figure it's something along the lines of "What the hell?! Next time I'm going to the matinee."
My goodness. Hats from Ascot this year:

Wow, those are fantastic! I assume they included the one guy in the regular hat just because he was hot.

One of the best examples of "why race relations in the 1950s were so completely different from today" is watching old episodes of "What's My Line?" It was a very mainstream show filmed in cosmopolitan New York with people who considered themselves the best of the best. If you ever asked them if they were racist, they'd deny it whole-heartedly. But, they are continually fooled by articulate black male contestants who have professions such as district attorney, judge, and fighter pilot, because they always forget that, hey, black people can be professionals, too!!
They do the same with female contestants of all colors.
Happy Birthday, askye!
I love Isabella Christensen's hat.
Everyone keeps asking me what I think of the new U. President officially announced yesterday - the only thing I care about is whether or not he will continue the summer Friday tradition.
In the 4th-to-bottom row of hat pics, there's a terrific grey-and-white striped hat that I'd love to wear.
10 minutes left and Switzerland is leading Spain 1-0. Huge upset if the neutral crew holds on.
If Switzerland had cheerleaders, would they look like Swiss Miss?
I love the gentleman's swan hat...clearly he's accustomed to 'swanning about'...except I fear it might be an actual swan...in which case, ew.
