IO9 has an extended discussion of a) the fact that Marmaduke had an appalling opening and b) how it completely failed to engage any possible demographic.

I had no idea Marmaduke was a movie until DH reviewed it.
Marmaduke did not look good. But I don't even like the Marmaduke comics so I'm clearly not the audience.

I did, because I saw this one poster at a bus stop on Sheridan near my apartment....
I can't figure out who it was supposed to appeal to. Kids aren't reading the newspaper comics anymore, are they? And I have no interest in a movie about Marmaduke. Of course, I've had no interest in the comic strip since I was about eight, either.

I was so intent on ignoring the trailer every time it came on that it took me about a dozen half-watches to notice Lee Pace.
I watched the trailer a few months ago and it was one of the worst things I'd ever seen. WHY LEE PACE WHY.
I think it was because Lee Pace was in it that I've known it was happening. Much like MGG being in Alvin & The Chipmunks 2 alerted me to the existence of the Squeakquel.

God I hate that word.
There was a poster up near work with it FOREVER. For values of forever that equal longer than the Sherlock Holmes poster which is just the hottest poster to be out in a long time. Drove me bananas, as it embedded itself into my brain.
So now I have to inflict it on all and sundry.
