Friends don't let friends read "Atlas Shrugged"

I'm currently wearing a t-shirt I got at a thrift shop - Talbot's, almost new, a lovely pale blue-green pima cotton. For $2.50. I win!

Sir, it's not an offence to let your cat eat your bacon. Okay? And we don't arrest cats, I'm very sorry.

John Oliver's World Cup Trip For 'Daily Show' A Dream

NEW YORK — John Oliver's job on "The Daily Show" is giving him an English soccer fan's dream: the chance to attend the World Cup – and perhaps more important – taunt the Americans before they take on his national team.

...

An American victory over his home country is possible, Oliver said, "but I hope to high heaven that it does not happen, because I'm not even sure I can come back to the office if it does."

Back home, an American victory would unleash "a complex series of emotions, from huge embarrassment to outright humiliation to deep anger, which would probably link in to losing this country a couple of hundred years ago as well," he said.

"It would be a disaster in England," he said. "You can't even comprehend how bad it would be. It would be even worse to lose to a country that doesn't care about it anyway."

Dear Work Person:

I get that it's been REALLY hard to drag information out of the people we're working with. SUPER hard. To get any decisions in writing has been a big PITA, and they take FOREVER to make a decision, which is hampering our job.

That said, sending out a "how to do this bizarro workaround in the software we use" as if they've finally told us how to do something, when several of us have REPEATEDLY explained how to do that, on the weekly conference calls? Is NOT a "OMG here's an answer that's been hanging out there and they finally told us!" If THAT was on your to-do list to bug them about, I'd love to see and re-align your to-do list. SERIOUSLY. Because I would've crossed that off months ago, and quit bothering them about it. Because we already knew how to do it, and have ALREADY explained, REPEATEDLY, on teleconferences YOU WERE LEADING.

Argh.

Sometimes I trip on how happy we could be.

Yeah, some people here may (or may not!) be glad to hear that my coworker was all like, "What is this, Bing??"

Does this mean I can have a nutty bar now for behaving?

Yes.

I had an extended birthday lunch for a coworker, came back to a couple of emails I was waiting for, did something proactive (apparently proactivity is highly-prized here), so now I feel like the day should be over....
