Illyria: Wesley's dead. I'm feeling grief for him. I can't seem to control it. I wish to do more violence. Spike: Well, wishes just happen to be horses today.

Happy birthday, Leif!

And congrats on the paid-off car, Frankenbudda!

I've got six more payments and then I'll be able to say the same and start sticking my ex-car-payment into savings instead. Goal is to be able to pay cash for the rest of my masters degree and graduate with a bit still in the savings account to help with any moving costs if I get a library job elsewhere in the country. Oh, and pray that the Honda Civic lives up to its reputation as a long-lived car and will last me at least 8-10 more years over the nearly five years it already has.

Sir, it's not an offence to let your cat eat your bacon. Okay? And we don't arrest cats, I'm very sorry.

Have people seen this blog? If so, did I post it before and forget?

Couch Cushion Architecture; A Critical Analysis

An example:

The crisp, orthogonal structure is, in a way, camouflaged by the informality of the landscaping. While a clear bifurcation exists between site and structure, we give high marks to the close coordination of architect and landscape architect in using similar materials to exaggerate the divergent design concepts. "This bar smells like kerosene and stripper tears."

Boss just got a snotty email about a request "from over a week ago" about something that is NOT on a certain channel.

The request was put in the system EXACTLY a week ago, AFTER our scheduling meeting and the list is made with data that YOU give us.

She's working from home, but I wonder if she's feeling as ranty as I am. I sent her the tracking ticket.

I'm mildly disappointed that my LJ isn't displaying in Russian.

What else besides ramen can you scoop? YOU CAN SCOOP THIS WORLD FROM DARKNESS!

Relevant to the "positive thinking" discussion: The Just-World Fallacy.

It is common in fiction for the bad guys to lose and the good guys to win.

It’s how you would like to see the world- just and fair.

In psychology, the tendency to believe this is how the real world actually works is called the Just-World Fallacy.

More specifically, this is the tendency to react to horrible misfortune, like homelessness or drug addiction, by believing the people stuck in horrible situations must have done something to deserve it.
