meara, that is awful. I had a couple of friends whose baby died of SIDS at a day care, and it is horrible when something happens with someone who you trusted with your child, intentional harm or no.

I assume it's like when I was young and would clip a lead rope to my horse's halter and drape it over his neck, lie back and let him wander around the desert while I watched the clouds.
That said, I don't think this practice is so common that people should use the phrase.
My otherwise beloved husband cannot spell the word "quiet." I married him even knowing this!
