It looks like Mercury could be going the way of Oldsmobile.
Huh. Oh well.
Though in truth I can't think of the last time Mercury has sold anything that wasn't a well-optioned Ford with a different grille.
I think that was the Cougar (the front-drive one).
Gud, do they make the Ford Crown Vic anymore? Lately I've seen the Chicago Police with a bunch of new non-Crown Vic police cars, and taxi companies are driving a lot more Mercury Grand Marquis's now.

I think you're right. I've read lots of rumors about Mercury being used to sell European models, but they may just have been frustrated Ford-philes from the days when it seemed like Ford didn't sell any of their best cars in North America. Now that Ford appears to be unifying their offerings, I can see why Mercury would get left out in the cold.
I think the Crown Vic is still being made but only for fleet sales. I read an article someplace that Ford will be pushing the Taurus for police work now, so I'm guessing the Crown Vic will not live on much longer.
Production of the Crown Victoria will end in 2011. Future Police Interceptors will be based on the Taurus SHO: [link]
One of the local towns has Dodge Charger police cars in good old black and white and they look positively bad-ass.
I will miss the Crown Vic. So nice and easy to spot.
Shirtless Kirk cologne. Uh, huh? Srsly?

Does that mean production of the Grand Marquis and Town Car will end then too?
(A few years ago Ford said they were gonna cancel the Town Car, but they changed their minds.)

Yeah, I agree. Evanston has had them as cop cars for a few years now.
