The Y in Athens GA is still Christian. You cannot rent rooms from them, however.
TDF:
Leipheimer crossed the line 10th, a little over two minutes behind the stage winner, and after Contador and Schleck.
Armstrong was 13th, about three minutes behind.
Most Ys do not have rooms anymore is my understanding. Not sure on the Christian.
So close to being done here. I think I might be able to eat lunch almost on time.
Aims, did you see that Tony Bourdain was in Ann Arbor on No Reservations this week?
No!! I missed it!! He's been here quite a bit lately.
Still Christian:
With a mission to put Christian principles into practice through programs that build a healthy spirit, mind and body for all, our impact is felt when an individual makes a healthy choice, when a mentor inspires a child and when a community comes together for the common good.
The 92nd St. Y has been calling itself Y forever, even though it's not associated with Y. (It's YMHA/YWHA).
So in moving things around in my kitchen so that the giant pink fridge can be moved, I realize that a different configuration of furniture would have worked better in here. Huh, 6 years too late.
Interestingly, the YMCA of Maryland (claims to be first brick and mortar facility in US) leaves "Christian" out of it's mission.
The Y has a national governing body, but individual Ys are autonomous and can range from completely inclusive, we're a community center for all, to much more explicity Christian. There was a kerfuffle around here a few years back when the local Ys refused to allow LGBT families to use their family rate because they weren't part of the Y's def of "family", and so was taken off the Looniversity's benefits plan.
