quester, I'm not sure what their decision making process is, but it is tough out there for designers right now. Not only are there a lot of them competing for fewer positions (If a company thinks they can pile the work of 2 and 3 designers onto one, they will), but some are either outsourcing or cutting altogether (by which I mean there may be someone in the company who thinks they can design, and they'll let them). Please don't think it has anything to do with your value as a designer.
