I also have a whole bunch of leftover glop from beef stew (I had too much liquid, so when I thickened it, it was still too much liquid). Maybe I could use that?

Yeast extract is Marmite or Vegemite.
Ok then. I think I can safely skip it
I was just watching a British reality show called Come Dine With Me and one guy used marmite as the secret ingredient in his chili. I think those who love it, love it in everything.
Marmite is yeast extract?! I had no idea.
Marmite is an umami flavor: [link] In small amounts, it'll make pretty much any savory food taste better.
Yeast extract in vegetarian recipes is mainly used to create umami, since it contains glutamates. A splash of soy sauce is good in a pinch.
I thought about it, after the other thing fell through, but I'm pretty sure that the 2 hour drive it would have been because of the rain would have turned my tired into rage.
You could've done what megan did, and spent the night there.
Errr. You're kind of missing the point--it's not the being there or the going home that was the issue, it was the getting there. It took me over 45 minutes to get home last night, and that was on the good freeway, and about a third of the distance. I would not have been up to game night after the drive.
It's good you all left the city though!
Marmite is an umami flavor
Oh! I was just looking at the most recent issue of Cook's Illustrated and their recipe for beef stew had a long digression on glutamates and they ultimately decided that the best way to plump up the flavor of the stew was with a bit of smushed up sardines.
it was the getting there
Well next time you can take the pneumatic tube.
Actually, megan took BART and then a cab to java's house.
