I'm sorry, dad. You know I would never have tried to save River's life if I had known there was a dinner party at risk.

Because books.

Lady Gaga really grew on me. I haven't seen or heard any interviews, but I think there's probably more to her than she's willing to show. And I did see a clip of her singing in a bar before she *became* Lady Gaga, and her voice is pretty amazing.

brillig

her voice is pretty amazing.

Wrod. I don't mind weird when there's the talent to back up.

Well not canonically, no, but this is transformative fiction.

I can't argue with that.

And excellent soundtrack. So much win! Okay, I'm not in love with the Minnie Driver character, but at least she was played by a cool actress. So it's okay.

Can I go home yet?

Please?

"We are the Goon Squad and we're coming to town...Beep! Beep!" - David Bowie, "Fashion"

I forgot about that! Not that I really drank much of it, but I always did the rebuses.

Ballentine bottles had those rebuses too!

I think Haffenreffer was a New England tradition of a certain beer drinking age. Granted, so was Nastygansett, but I managed to avoid that one.

Keep breathing!

Quick question for the hivemind: has anyone filled out the new FAFSA (U.S. government form for higher ed financial aid)? I am down to the wire for the deadline for one of my kids' schools and panicking. Last year it took HOURS but I hear they've simplified the form. I hope so, because I'd like to get to bed before 2:00am and tonight's pretty much my one free night to do it. Grrrr.

"I keep to a strict diet of ill-advised enthusiasm and heartfelt regret." Leigh Bardugo

I have nothing to say about yellow beer or about Lady Gaga. But I'd like to acknowledge, in looking through pictures, Tom Scola has The Best Smile ever.

Also the first half of Academic Decathlon competition this weekend and I'm beginning to feel the stomach flutter of anxiety.

Also also, the LA Times did a nice blog post on my school's b-ball team which is coached by one of the teachers I am providing mentoring for. I love that we have a team with only 6 (short!) kids on it but still kicking butt.

What else besides ramen can you scoop? YOU CAN SCOOP THIS WORLD FROM DARKNESS!

Okay, I'm not in love with the Minnie Driver character, but at least she was played by a cool actress. So it's okay.

What's cool about Minnie Driver? Besides the fact that she showed up on my Pandora stream and her song was not bad.

Well not canonically, no, but this is transformative fiction.

I like her low profile, never seen a bad interview with her, and she has an interesting choice of roles. She seems strong.

Cats to become a rabbit should gather immediately now here

Someone told my boss that the university is no longer allowed to provide food for meetings that involve staff, because the food is a taxable benefit for the employee and would have to be noted in our paycheck. Does this sound crazy to anyone else? (I also just came from a meeting that had food)

She was great in The Riches.
