Amy - I'm not a high school teacher but, as the mother of the child who set the school record for the number of days spent in in-school suspension, I know that at our suburban high school of 3,000 students, skipping school always meant in-school suspension - 1 day for each missed class, five days if you skipped an entire day - even for the first offense.
Thanks, lcat! This is for my book, and I want it to be realistic. My junior higher is totally straight arrow, and my eighteen-year-old ... pretty much just never attended, so my frame of reference is a little skewed.
