Wow, Hec, that whitefont was pleasant!

Jesse, I am sure Homer loves his mommy very, very much! ;)

Some random men who were going through trashcans collecting bottles shouted Happy Mother's Day to me. I did not bother to correct them.

Hummingbird cake is done and cooling, mac is asleep, I've had some bourbon and ginger and think I'll go to sleep.

It's got bananas and pineapple in it, usually with a cream cheese frosting, but we won't frost this one. [link] It's a Southern thing.

Color me intrigued.

I had a very Buffista dinner. I made my faux-Caesar dressing (although with a real anchovy) and then had that with roasted veggies. (This roasted veggie thing has been a revelation. Tonight was aparagus and blue potatoes.)

I also blended up my strawberries leftover from last week's market run into a sort-of smoothie that I froze to be a very fruity sorbet.

And now I'm drinking a tasty cocktail made with the last of javachik's lemons.

Any thoughts or info on Obama's latest Supreme Court nominee?

Lisah, the helmets are a heavier than a lightweight street bike helmet, but I love mine so much. Noah has one similar in style but smaller. I want to get Grace one of the little nutty helmets. They make me happy (on the back it says, "I love my brain!")

I have decided I want this cake for my birthday: Heaven and Hell Cake. Sadly, I'll end up having to make it for myself.

Someone asked about cookbooks back a ways - this one has the Hummingbird cake and also about 5 of my go-to recipes. I was given it as a gift and it has just been a really good one: [link]

Also wanted to give this one a plug for anyone trying to do more cooking with beans and grains: [link]

You were a wrong baby who grew up wrong. The wrong kind of wrong. It's better you hear it from a friend.

I saw a hummingbird cake mix at the supermarket the other day. (We were stocking up on cake mixes, baking cakes has become somthing of a tasty hobby for Wallybee.) So their fame has reached Australia, it seems. I didn't get one, settled for a chocolate, a lemon and an English tea instead.

“Not dead yet!”

I need to start poking around for a good lemon cake recipe. I'm trying to decide if I want dense or light.
