"Faded like the lilac, he thought."

Wow. We just got about two inches of snow and it`s all melted now. Although there is a suspicious noise out there so maybe we`re getting more. I`ve been in bed with a cold all day so I wouldn`t know. Hope it subsides because I`m supposed to sing tomorrow and I teach not to sing on a sore throat!

Snow!

One of the school districts in Big Bear had a snow day yesterday (Rim of the World Unified School District...great name).

I made rhubarb-strawberry jam. I haven't had rhubarb since I was a kid. But I saw a few stalks at the Farmer's Market that pinged me with a "hmmm...." then more were at the grocery store (shock! the ringer didn't even know what it was!). And now the jars are processing. Only 2 1/2 pints worth which is still plenty.

Life moves pretty fast. You don't stop and look around once in a while, you could miss it.

I had some cool shit happen at my house while I was at work. We were planning to rent a rototiller to smooth out the back part of our backyard this weekend. It had a dead orange tree, surrounded by concrete. We broke up the concrete last year and J and his bro took out the tree over Christmas. Since then has been uneven and covered in weeds.

J did research on renting a rototiller and it was gonna be about $150 plus gas for two days. He ALSO found a guy called, interestingly, "Rototiller Guy" who will come and bring a crew and do all the rototilling for you. Cost of this? $200. They came this morning and did the whole thing. Tomorrow, we put in some raised beds and plant us some veggies!

We realized that the area we had done is 500 sq. feet, which is bigger than the apartment we lived in in NYC for 8 years.

The status is NOT quo.

Rim of the World Unified School District...great name

I drove by that school on my way to go skiing a few weeks ago. Amazing view!

Bob's learned to live with tragedy, but he knows that this tragedy is one that won't ever leave him or get better.

Rim of the World really does have a great view.

Greece's financial crisis threatens to take down all of Western civilization - a civilization they themselves founded. A rather tragic irony - which is something they also invented. - Jon Stewart

The town over from where I grew up had a Central Middle School. My sisters and I always delighted in the redundancy of that name. It's sort of the Sirhan Sirhan of New Jersey secondary schools.

"I remember when they eventually introduced that drug kingpin who murdered people and smuggled drugs inside snakes and I was like 'Finally. A normal person.'” —RahvinDragand

This History Channel program about the Appalachians that I'm watching just said that the existence of snake-handling churches is evidence of the religious tolerance in the mountains. Because most people aren't snake-handlers, but respect the right of other people to do it if they want to. I think there needs to be tolerance of a few more religions before it can be called "religious tolerance" rather than "tolerance of Appalachian traditions."

I suspect religiously intolerant people are less inclined to be vocal about it when faced with someone holding a poisonous snake.

Fandom means never having to say "But where would I wear that?"

Timelies all!

It's sunny now, but we're supposed to get rain tonight and tomorrow. Oh, joy.

Sometimes I trip on how happy we could be.

I am sorry for all of you guys getting snow! That's bananas.

He ALSO found a guy called, interestingly, "Rototiller Guy" who will come and bring a crew and do all the rototilling for you. Cost of this? $200. They came this morning and did the whole thing. Tomorrow, we put in some raised beds and plant us some veggies!

That's awesome.

I have to get my act together to run some errands this morning. It looks beautiful outside, so that's good. Also awesome is how many errands I can run so close to my house. I knew there was a Papyrus nearby, but I forgot where. Looked online, and oh right, it's in the mall across the street!
