Handsome brooding vampire guy has to swoop in all sensitive mouth and overhanging forehead. How 'bout leaving some scraps for the homely-looking fellows who don't turn evil when they get some?

Sir, it's not an offence to let your cat eat your bacon. Okay? And we don't arrest cats, I'm very sorry.

The sun is pretty. And scary. And the sun is a mass of incandescent gas, a gigantic nuclear furnace.

I had s nightmare last night that I had lost most of my hair (and worst, was only suddenly realizing it, somehow--like I still had hair on the sides of my head but when I looked at the top realized it was so thin I had big bald spots. Scary!!)

Socks are a running theme throughout the series. They are used as symbols of freedom, redemption and love.

If you cut them while they're raw, there's much less mess, but they're also harder to cut.

Ok, thanks. I've only ever cut cooked beets and imagined that raw ones would be messier.

That man was going to shank me. Over an omelette. Two eggs and a slice of government cheese. Is that what my life is worth?

I actually cut and cooked regular red beets last night. I peel them with a vegetable peeler then slice them when raw. They are hard and kind of hard to cut. I use a plastic cutting board so it won't stain my wood one. And I wear an apron so I don't stain my clothes. My hands wash easily enough.

Sounds like your subconscious was reacting to being in your new place. You have most of your stuff, but it's not unpacked and in its proper places, ergo, you have "bald spots."

Or perhaps not.

Otherwise, how was the first night in the new place?

We're very stretchy. - Connie Neil

IIRC, one of the Top Chef eps had a beet slaw that looked really good. My favorite local restaurant makes a kickass "spicy beets" dish that is julienned beets in a vinegar-based marinade which are really yummy (they make a similar "spicy carrots" dish which is spicier; nearly burnt out my tastebuds when I went there with my dad a few weeks ago).

Sometimes I trip on how happy we could be.

Man, I love beets. I should cook them more at home.

Trust my rage

I am really annoyed that, when I type information into Google about children born abroad becoming US citizens, all I get is pages and pages of birther/Obama is secretly Kenyan crap.

How to peel beets: [link]

I always just used a fork to hold cooked beets and peeled them with a knife. Less mess for me.
