What are people doing this weekend?
Going out of town for a weekend of debauchery (kink event). Mostly I'm looking forward to a hotel bathroom so I can take a bath in a tub that doesn't want to kill me. Also 24/7 air conditioning so my allergies don't want to kill me (get thee behind me, pollen). The kink is just a bonus.
Oooh, and cable TV in the hotel room! Sabado Gigante on Univision!
(I fail at kink. I love hotels.)
High School Game Forfeited After Three Innings, 45-0 Lead
A baseball game in Wisconsin was called off after three innings this week when Three Lakes High School rand up a 45-0 lead against Phelps High School.
"It was kind of embarrassing. I feel bad," Three Lakes coach Jeff Liebscher told the local newspaper.
When I see scores like 45-0 in high school sports, I always feel like it's got to be poor sportsmanship on the part of the winning team, and one detail in the local newspaper account -- the fact that Three Lakes stole 11 bases in the first inning -- makes me think this was another such case.
On the other hand, from all indications, the Phelps High School team is just really, really bad.
For one thing, Three Lakes entered the game with a 1-2 record, and lost its previous game 15-0. So this wasn't some powerhouse team beating up on Weak Sisters of the Poor. This was a mediocre team beating up on a team that would probably lose to Weak Sisters of the Poor.

More chores
Finishing up my semester's work, hanging with B&E, and not killing my uncle.
Tomorrow, we are meeting with a realtor to discuss getting this place sold ASAP. Then going to Goodwill to drop off a bunch of clothes, and out for dinner. Sunday, we drive to CT and talk to my family about possibly moving to New Orleans. Monday, Tom has a dentist appointment. (we both have the day off.) Also probably giving the NOLA company his decision.
So you finally got in touch with your Mom? Good to know. Hope the job works out for Tom. I'll be sad to see you guys go (my only Salem peeps!), but I know how much you want this.
It's so exciting to have a job offer in the place you want to move to! I have now relocated three times with no job, and it's scary....
OK, here's a random musing: Isn't it funny how different food fills you up differently? I had the frozen TJ's spinach lasagna for lunch, and it says it's only like 350 calories, so I figured I'd need a snack, but I'm so full right now! Hearty.
Tommy - softball games like that are SO hard to coach. When Kelly was in high school, the majority of the teams in their devision were like the two in that story. They always came out and played softball in their usual style in the first inning. It doesn't benefit the other team to completely play down to their level - how do they learn to improve? And it doesn't help our girls to not play at the level they can.
BUT taking advantage of every little mistake is not a reason to steal multiple bases. And as the innings progressed and our team hit the run rule limit, they would bring down their agressiveness at the plate and on the bases.
Even so, I remember one game where the score had gotten so crazy, our girls were trying to get out on purpose...stepping off base, not pushing to beat a tag, swinging at bad pitches, and such. Their girls didn't get it and wouldn't miss the tag or the ump would ignore things that should cause instant outs. It was crazy making. We just could not get out of the inning without scoring more runs.
Stranded at an airport but need to run Norway? There's an app for that.
Norway's Stranded Prime Minister Uses iPad To Govern From U.S.
An enormous volcanic ash cloud has shut down air travel in Europe, canceling flights and stranding Europe-bound passengers around the world.
But thanks to the iPad, stranded Norwegian Prime Minister Jens Stoltenberg hasn't had any trouble.
Stoltenberg, who traveled from Oslo to the U.S. to participate in President Obama's nuclear summit, is now stuck in New York City. Stoltenberg's press secretary told CNN that the prime minister has been running his government from Apple's tablet.
A photo of Stoltenberg on the Norwegian Government's official Flickr account shows the prime minister and his iPad under the (translated) title "The prime minister is working at the airport."
National Pickle Week kicks off
A very odd photo. They don't make bras like they used to.
