We have yet to remodel the kitchen, but we did put in a large butcher block counter to make the intervening years easier.
I bought a freestanding island at home depot, and that's my real food prep space.
The short wall with the sink and tiny counter space is where all my cupbards are too. I have cobble together more storage with shelves and kitchen carts.
My new counters will be tile too Burrell, I think I will be getting a couple of plastic boards to make work areas when I need them.
That's what we did in the house I grew up in. Freestanding dishwasher (on wheels) with a butcher block on top.
I have a double sink so I have a large cutting board that sits over top of one sink and is the most used counter space in my home. I just used it for bread kneading, as a matter of fact.
I am going to miss my pull out cutting board. I am not even sure where my other cutting boards are. I guess that is something to look for when packing.
My apartment kitchen sucks for counter space, and is, in fact, the dreaded oak.
I actually do most of my prep at the table. I guess I am used to it, because we didn't reelly have counter space growing up (or cabinets, actually)
NO BEER!!!! I think I remember now that they had to ban it from the NYC ones because fights broke out.
Oh-- does anyone know a non-rascist way to say that our problem is "Too many Chiefs, not enough Indians"
too many cooks, not enough dishwashers
