I know a lot of infants with pierced ears because it's so standard in their culture.
This was me. Had them pierced as a baby. My sister had them pierced as a baby. Every girl I knew who was Cuban/Latin had them pierced as babies. I wanted to do Abby's when she was a baby but it twigged Lewis, so we waited until she was five or six, I can't remember any more.
I grew up in South Florida where it was common for Cubans to pierce their kids ears when they were babies. xpost!
I've sort of arbitrarily thought out age 13 for Matilda, but could be persuaded to go to 10 if she was really interested in it. Should probably discuss this at some point with JZ.
My driving dreams are more often going up a near vertical incline.
I've had that one. Usually a super steep bridge - very freaky.
I was pretty much the only girl without pierced ears. Mom made 13 the rule. Basically, she didn't want to be the one stuck taking care of 'em.
People seriously need to stop talking about teeth-related dreams. My teeth squick may in fact be stronger than my eye-squick.
I was 12 and had to earn it. Emeline's best friend informed the other night that "12 is not a good age for ear piercing. But five and-a-half is a very good age for ear piercing. But Emeline would have to wait until the half part buhcuz she is only just the five right now."
In my family, we had to wait until we were 12. I'm pretty sure my mom wanted to make sure we were old enough to take care of it ourselves.
I had my ears pierced kinda late, because I had them done at the same time as my sister--so I was probably four or five. There were lots of things we weren't old enough to take care of ourselves. Earrings didn't seem that different. I went through a no-adornment phase at 11 or so, and they closed up. Repierced them shortly afterwards. So the daughter getting her ears pierced on dad's watch didn't ping me until it was explained.
Ear piercing is one of my mother's squicks, so my sisters and I had to wait until we went to college and no longer lived at home.
I have an adult friend my age (mid 30s) without pierced ears, but I think only the one. And my grandmother's (b. 1913) were never pierced - I always found those screw-back earring so strange and evocative. That and the smell of old-fashioned lipstick.
