Pros (compared to moving to Bay area)

• lower cost of living
• many opportunities to be involved in rebuilding efforts/volunteering and other non-profit work
• not cold in the summer

Cons: (compared to moving to Bay Area)

• don't know anyone there
• very hot in the summer

Factors true for both:

• awesome places to live
• great food, drink, music, people

I've just checked Pub Marketplace-- nothing in the last twelve months that I can see, re: a possible book deal. And that kind of press is usually accompanied with some mention of a deal, so, make of that what you will.

Believe me, no one is as surprised as the two of us that we are seriously considering a Louisiana relocation! I just fell in love with the city (considering my first trip there was this past May and this was my third visit there.) I have been inspired by the city to think about life in terms greater than myself, greater than my job title, salary, or other material things.

Everywhere I went during this most recent trip, I kept hearing stories about people sick of their lives, packing up and moving to New Orleans with no real plan but to try to find a soul-satisfying and joyful life.

Through my short exposure to life in the lower Ninth last week, I feel very connected and committed to the idea of helping rebuild the community any way I can.

I know it sounds crazy!

We're on On the Media? Oh. Huh. I listen to their podcast every week, it's okay for an NPR show (semi-intellectual but hardly cutting edge).

Between Dana's "Wait Wait" thing and now this, I wonder if we're being stalked by some NPR intern...

Macy's suit sale was sort of a success, in that I spent money, but the one suit I really liked I let my sister buy. And now I should go see my parents except Dad switched the phone over to Fax and I can't get through to them. Which is annoying.

Oh, man, Nora, much as I want you and Tom to move here, NOLA is deeply lovable and all your pluses are things I can't really argue with. Hell, I've never lived anywhere but here and until my honeymoon the only place in the entire US I could imagine living that wasn't here was, of all places, Boston.

Then the honeymoon, on the way home from which I told Hec, repeatedly, that when we retire we are retiring to NOLA, period, no further discussion.

So, much as I want you here, I can't argue with the New Orleans love.

Also, I shampoo once every two or three weeks. Regularly use a light conditioner, regularly shower and give my hair and scalp a good thorough rinsing and scrubbing with hot hot hot water to get rid of the product, but barely shampoo.

Garnier fructis style

I love that stuff so much. I haven't found a single product of theirs that doesn't make my skin and hair very very happy. It broke my heart a few months ago to find out they'd been bought up by Nestle, those evil motherfuckers, and I'd have to lovingly hoard my remaining stock of Garnier products and look for something else when they ran out. Nestle. Those bastards. Thanks to them I haven't bought a Butterfinger bar in over a decade, and now they're trying to ruin my hair and skin too, assholes.

I used to do that. Then I had kids. Now I try to shower AT LEAST twice as often as I wash my hair, but that can be hard to keep up.
